For the past five and a half years I have been responsible for leading the Ministry Team at Oasis Community Church.
Together with my wife Mary to whom I have been married for 51 years, we have been involved in active ministry for over 50 years during which time, we have been privileged and blessed to experience the faithfulness and favour and untold blessings of the Lord in our lives.
No one could have seen or predicted the pathway before us back in those early days of pioneering a new work in 2015. A Church, a fellowship, a family where everyone was made welcome without judgement or condemnation , but assured of finding the unconditional love of our great God exemplified in and through a group of people whose lives had been radically changed by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Oasis Community Church is a modern contemporary and relevant Church for the social environment of the Community that surrounds us. With outreach ministries that cover every age grouping, we are so blessed to see the lives of many people changed and we have also recently seen the planting out of new ministries into a new Community.
Oasis House at Penywaun was birthed in 2019 and is now ready to be used as a fully functional centre of outreach and ministry to those bound in addiction and abusive situations.
But for me, the time has now come to hand over the baton of responsibility to a younger dynamic Leadership Team who will under the anointing of the Holy Spirit take this Church to the next level of its development and ministry. With Apostolic Oversight from Paul Jones and Pastoral Care from James Richards, I am convinced that the purposes of God that were birthed in 2015 are now to enter a new dimension of growth and development hitherto unseen in Aberdare.
I have been married to Beverley for 36 years we have 1 daughter, Sarah, 2 sons: David and Jonathan, 1 daughter in law: Esther, 1 son in law: Lewis and 2 grandchildren, Elijah and Gwen.
I am an electrician by trade with over 40 years experience working in the building industry.
I have been a Christian since 1971 when I asked Jesus to come into my life.
I love to sing and I am pleased to be involved in the worship group at Oasis church.
My hobbies and interests are reading mainly crime/detective novels and I collect vintage model cars. I enjoy watching football and follow Liverpool F.C.
Cath and I were married more than 30 years ago and throughout that time, we have been so thankful for the privilege of serving God in various churches in Aberdare. We are also very grateful to the Lord that by His grace, both of our children are also actively involved in His work here at Oasis.
Cath is a clerical officer in the National Health Service and I’m an IT co-ordinator for a company whose UK office is located in Cardiff.
Working for the Lord at Oasis Community Church has been the best experience of our lives and we have seen incredible growth and God has transformed so many lives. Cath is responsible for heading up the under-5s children’s work called Oasis Tots. I am involved in the Worship team and have teaching responsibilities also.
When Oasis was formed in October 2015, the banner over the entrance read ‘Blessed Beyond Measure’. That was prophetic because we have experienced God’s blessing in every area of our lives. My prayer is that God continues to bless as we are careful to listen to His voice and to His leading in the future.
My name is James Richards and am married to Claire for 18 years. We have been blessed with two beautiful children Amelia and Cameron who currently attend St John Church in Wales High school. I work as a funeral director with Richards Funeral Services and it has been a blessing to be able to help so many people over the years through difficult times.
It is also a massive privilege to be able to serve God within Oasis Community Church as part of the leadership team as we seek to serve our community in many different ways and to show God’s Love for them.
Away from work and church life, I love to spend time with my children, keeping fit and watching various sports.
My Name is Nathan Parmee, and I am 23 years of age. Even though it may seem young to be part of the leadership team at Oasis, I am extremely grateful and blessed that the opportunity to serve the Lord has come so early in my life.
I discovered God’s grace, for the first time in 2016 when I found my salvation in Jesus Christ. Since then I have been on a wonderful journey with God who has grown, challenged, stretched and developed me in so many ways which I never thought possible. BUT the God we serve can do immeasurably more than we can ever ask or imagine so although I know that there is a long road in front of me, I am looking forward with great joy to the challenge of growing and personal development in my relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
I am currently in full time employment at as an embalmer. At work I have to deal with death on a daily basis but in my ministry at Oasis I feel so blessed that I also have the opportunity to deal with life on a daily basis, true life in Jesus Christ.
Oasis Community Church is a contemporary Church which God has blessed with a relevant vision and facilities to reach our Community, alongside a capacity to truly love and help people with a message of hope while standing on the truths of Scripture.

Hi, I feel so blessed to be part of this church and feel so passionately about it. I’m married to Zoe and we have four fantastic children. Life isn’t always easy juggling three teenagers, a younger one and a dog but we thank God daily for all that we have in our lives! God is moving so greatly in this area and the future is so encouraging.
I am a JNC qualified youth worker with over 20 years experience of working with young people in church and as my full-time job working for Neath Port Talbot Council. This has given me so many valuable insights and experiences with families from all walks of life which as rounded me into a supportive and understanding individual. God has placed me in so many situations where his peace and wisdom has allowed me to encourage and help families through some very hard times.
I attempt to play the bass guitar as part of our Oasis worship group and its great to have my wife and daughter alongside me as singers. My other hobbies include weight training and trying to become a triathlete. Our annual Oasis Challenge Day (the brainchild of James Richards) has allowed us to reach out to lots of friends and family and has helped us to breakdown some of the barriers people feel towards Church and God who is so relevant to their lives.
My name is Matthew Harris and I have been a Christian since April 1997.
I have the absolute privilege of serving full time on the team at Oasis Community Church together with my wife Mel.
Mel and I have been married 20 years this year, after meeting as staff members at Teen Challenge uk, a Christian drug and alcohol rehabilitation ministry.
We also have 3 lovely children, Bethan, Samuel and Joshua.
Part of our role within Oasis is to serve in the capacity of outreach. We also serve under the banner of Challenge Valleys which is an ‘addiction’ outreach ministry set up to supply support and advice to anyone struggling with addiction and/or their families. As part of that support we help with referrals to Christian drug and alcohol rehabilitation centres for anyone in addiction serious about change.
